The future of NFL contracts might be slated to take an unprecedented turn. According to a former WR & analyst, Patrick Mahomes’ impending deal will shatter Browns‘ Deshaun Watson’s record-breaking contract, possibly reaching a jaw-dropping amount in guaranteed money. The Chiefs seem ready to spare no expense, but why?
Since, Patrick already bagged a $503 Million contract for 10 years, represented by an agent who shares a strong bond with the owners of the Kansas City Chiefs, ample financial support will become a reality. But how can Mahomes secure a prosperous deal without hindering his peers or compromising team success?
Pat’s next deal will smash Watson’s contract
Pat’s upcoming contract is expected to surpass the guaranteed money earned by Deshaun Watson, according to Keyshawn Johnson. Johnson confidently predicts that Pat’s next deal will exceed $300 million in guaranteed money, stating that he would bet on it without hesitation.
Keyshawn openly stated, “When you start talking about ‘the money part if he’s going to surpass 200 million dollars of guaranteed money’ I have no doubt about it, I mean that I would almost bet anything that he’s going to surpass it.” When asked if Pat would “hit” or surpass Watson’s contract, Johnson reiterated his belief and mentioned that the contract could potentially span an astonishing 10 years, amounting to around $750 million.
Responding to a question “Really you think they’re gonna crush it is he gonna hit Deshaun Watson?” Keyshawn said- “his next deal will be some crazy 10-year you know 750. And the guarantee will probably be close to 300 million dollars. He’s gonna smash Deshaun.” Furthermore, he suggests that the guarantee in Pat’s contract might approach a staggering amount, emphasizing that Pat will “smash” Watson’s contract in terms of financial terms. And Keyshawn exclaimed Chiefs will be ready to offer an open checkbook to secure Mahomes’ services. And his agent Lee Steinberg might just get him there.
Steinberg’s expertise and the Hunt family connection
According to Keyshawn Johnson, Patrick is represented by Lee Steinberg, an experienced agent with extensive knowledge of quarterback contracts. Steinberg has a strong relationship with the Hunt family, the owners of the Kansas City Chiefs. When you are considered “the guy” for a team, like Patrick is, the organization is willing to provide ample financial resources.
“He [Mahomes] has a long-time quarterback agent Lee Steinberg who’s been around the block who’s an old wizard who knows how to manipulate the salary cap and do certain things for quarterbacks and he has a relationship with the Hunt family in Kansas City.” -Keyshawn indicated the future deal for Mahomes.
Meanwhile, as per Mahomes, the goal is to avoid negatively impacting other quarterbacks when it’s time for their contract negotiations, while also striving for continuous improvement. Mahomes says- “You just want to do whatever to not hurt other quarterbacks whenever their contracts come up but you want to kind of keep the bar pushing.” Further mentioned- “But you’re still keeping a lot of great players around you, so you can win these Super Bowls and you’re able to compete in these games.”
However, it’s important to strike a balance where he can earn a reasonable income while also retaining talented teammates. This approach is crucial for winning Super Bowls and remaining competitive in important games. Well, it’s only getting deep with money talks & interesting with the upcoming season ‘walk the talk’ challenge.
